What does this poem from Spoon River Anthology mean?

She tells them that she knew of all the affairs going on. She could see beneath the finery to the real person....She asks the wives to be aware of their looks and buy up to date finery,like the hats she sold. She implies that even if everyone had been born on a farm away from the trinkets and finery of the big city, there would still be men and women who cheated on their spouses.
