Would it be better for Christians if the rest of the Bible weren't there?

In Hinduism there is a systematic classification of types of scripture: revealed knowledge, remembered knowledge, commentaries, epic stories, mythology, law codes etc - not all of which are considered equally authoritative or to be interpreted the same way. I think Christian thought would benefit if a similar classification of the Bible were attempted rather than try and consider everything on an equal footing.
