Where can I buy cheap clockwork and gears in bulk?

I'm looking for gears, such as in clockwork, of all sizes. I found a new hobby making 'steampunk' jewelry and decorations, but I need a jump start on finding the right gear (no pun intended). To find the best price would I be better off shopping online, visiting antique stores, or taking apart specific machinery ie: watches, VCRs, cars? If you have any personal experience in anything steampunk, point me in the right direction. If your just guessing, well.. I can do that too.
