Splint or buddy wrap a buckle fracture that goes into growth plate?

In treating a 14 year old who just suffered a buckle fracture at the base of the proximal phalanx (ring finger), one doctor says not to splint the injured finger but rather to buddy wrap it to the middle finger. Another doctor says to apply a splint to the broken finger for 5-7 days and then buddy wrap the two fingers together. There is a slight misalignment in the growth plate as shown in the x-ray, but not too much. Which treatment makes more sense to make sure that the finger grows as straight and flexible as possible?
